OCC to offer 46 online classes in the fall

Orange Coast College will offer 46 online Internet classes next

fall. Already, many of OCC’s fall classes are 100% online, with

others requiring one or more on-campus meetings.

Online classes are completed within the same timeframe as

on-campus classes, but save the student commuting time. The only

requirement is that the student has access to the Internet from

his/her Pentium-class PC or Mac with a 28.8-speed modem, an

up-to-date browser, such as Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or

Netscape Communicator 4.7, and an e-mail account.

Some of the subjects available as online classes are: accounting,

allied health, business, computer information systems, computer

science, computerized office technology, English, food and nutrition

and music. These courses are worth one-half to four units of credit

each.

“Students who are disciplined find the Internet a great way to

take classes,” said Parnian Barvarz, a computer information systems

instructor. “It’s very helpful for online students to have their own

computer, but not essential. If need be, students may use the

computers and software available on campus in OCC’s John Clark

Computer center.”

Fall registration begins Monday, July 14, and classes begin

Monday, Aug. 25. Class schedules are available online at

www.oranecoastcollege.com. A printed version will be available June

23 at the OCC Administration Office. The office is open this summer

from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday: The college is closed

Fridays. For more registration information, call (714) 432-5072.
