Padres go from worst to first

The Padres turned their season around in dramatic fashion by winning

the second half championship in Minor A Division play at Huntington

Valley Little League.

A 7-6 victory over the Angels allowed the Padres to advance to the

upcoming District 62 Tournament of Champions, which will be hosted by

Huntington Valley.

The second half title allowed the Padres to wipe out a 2-8 record

-- and a last place finish -- during the first half of the season.

“All of our boys learned how to put the bat on the ball and that

made all the difference,” Padres coach Tim Hunter said of his team’s

reversal of fortune late in the season.

He also attributed the turnaround to improved pitching.

In other Minor A play:

Dodgers 11, Giants 7

Bryan Perez pitched three solid innings and also recorded a double

play as the Dodgers wrapped up second-place in the division.

Perez allowed just one run in his three innings of work.

Offensively for the Dodgers, Micah Womack went two for two with

three RBIs, Montana Merhoff had two hits and an RBI and Mark Johnston

hit a two-RBI double.

Seaview Little League

Yankees 22, Cardinals 3

Tony Giovinetti hit a home run to lead the hit parade for the

Yankees.

Kyle Soscia hit three singles, Matt Kibby doubled twice, Jonathan

Steele singled twice, Brett Sadler tripled, Corino Spitaleri doubled

and Sean Mottles, Cole Fraser, Eric Sickle and Nolan Heyer all

singled for the Yankees.

Brett Bryant started on the mound. Kibby, Soscia and Steele all

saw relief action.
