Clippers advance to title game after pair of wins

The Clippers advanced to the title game of the city of Laguna Beach

Community Services Department’s Junior Basketball League postseason

tournament by virtue of back-to-back wins over the Trailblazers and

Tartans.

They will face the Tartans in the winner’s bracket final.

Clippers 92, Trailblazers 84

Cheyne Martin netted 64 points, one week after he scored 70 in a

win over the Celtics, to lead the regular season champion Clippers.

Martin currently holds a 52 points per game scoring average --

tops among all players.

Nat Weaver contributed 12 points and Nick Witte scored eight for

the Clippers.

The Trailblazers had a pair of 30-plus point scorers in E.J. Gomez

and Bobby Monroe who posted 39 and 31 points, respectively.

Gomez averages 27.8 points per game and Monroe is scoring at a

24.4 clip.

Try Fleming hit four, three-point shots en route to 14 points.

Clippers 55, Tartans 44

Cheyne Martin again led the Clippers, this time with 37 points.

Nick Witte added eight points to the cause.

The Tartans got 13 points apiece from Dan Morrison, who averages

21.2 points per game, and Julian Bayles.

Tartans 76, Celtics 74

Five Tartans scored in double figures in the come-from-behind win

over the Celtics.

Costa Kontouli’s 20 points paved the way, followed by 16 from Dan

Morrison, 15 by Sammy Marks and 12 each from Hunter Steffien and

Tyler Stowers.

The Celtics’ Brian Delino topped all scorers with 33 points.

Delino is second in the league in scoring average with 33.8 points

per game.

The Celtics also received 17 points from Nathan Pickett and 10

from Kevin Buck.

Trailblazers 51, Lakers 41

Bobby Monroe poured in 22 points, E.J. Gomez had 20 and Jack

Monroe finished with 10 to lead the Trailblazers to victory in losers

bracket play.

Ian Butter’s 15 points paced a Lakers’ attack that saw Dylan

McDonald score 10 points.

Butters, the league’s top three-point shooter with 52, is

averaging 23.2 points per game.

Trailblazers 56, Lakers 55

E.J. Gomez scored 22 points and Bobby Monroe 20 as the

Trailblazers scored a first-round win over the Lakers.

Ian Butters topped the Lakers with 25 points and Brennan Healey

scored 15.

Lakers 68, Celtics 54

Ian Butter scored 36 points and Brennan Healy added 22 for the

Lakers.

Brian Delino’s 41 points led the Celtics who were eliminated from

title contention.

Celtics 63, Bruins 44

Brian Delino hit nine of 12 free throw attempts and finished with

31 points overall as the Celtics routed the Bruins in first-round

action.

Nathan Pickett added 16 points to the Celtics’ cause.

Patrick Curran scored 18 points and Chris Hyden added 12 to lead

the Bruins.
