HB Breakers take twinbill from city rival Sluggers

The HB Breakers defeated the Mizuno Sluggers for the third time in as

many games this season between two Huntington Beach-based club

baseball teams.

The Breakers took a weekend doubleheader from the Sluggers,

winning 5-2 and 7-6.

In the twinbill opener, the pitching of Anthony Paterno and Aaron

Amaral keyed a 5-2 victory.

Paterno was on the mark as he didn’t allow a hit and faced the

minimum of 12 batters in his four innings on the mound.

The Breakers took a 4-0 second inning lead behind the hitting of

Robbie Herron, Kyle Buchan, James Miller, Drew Kitchen, Amaral, Randy

Guite and a bases loaded walk to Bryan Kobylka.

They added another run in the third when Herron singled, stole a

base and later scored on a two-out single by Miller.

The score stood at 5-0 until the bottom of the seventh when the

Sluggers scored two, unearned runs.

In the final three innings, Amaral gave up just one hit.

The Breakers received two hits apiece from Kobylka, Herron,

Miller, Kitchen and singles by Paterno and Jamie Martin.

The second game saw the Breakers battle back from a 3-0 deficit.

After the Sluggers scored three runs in their first at-bat, Buchan

delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the first to bring the

Breakers within 3-2.

The Sluggers upped their advantage to 5-2 in the top of the fourth

but the Breakers, who had squandered bases loaded opportunities in

the third and fourth innings, came up with three runs in the fifth to

tie the game.

The three runs were produced on a double by Buchan, an RBI single

by Miller, a walk to Kitchen and a two-out RBI single by Guite.

The Sluggers took one final lead at 6-5 in the top of the sixth

but again, the Breakers came back in the bottom-half of the inning.

Kobylka and Paterno each walked and Herron received an intentional

walk to load the bases. Buchan then delivered his second double of

the game, this one scoring the tying and winning runs.

Buchan finished with three hits and four RBIs, Guite had three

hits and Amaral singled twice.
