Laguna granted second All-Star team

With the talent pool deep in the AAA Division of Laguna Beach Little

League for the 2003 season, the league was granted by the District 55

office the formation of a second 9/10 All-Star team to compete at the

district’s All-Star tournament, which opens this weekend.

The second of two Laguna 9/10 All-Star teams was selected by the

eight AAA Division managers and came under the guidance of Steve

Contursi, division commissioner.

“As commissioner of AAA I was glad to see the additional spot open

up so that another 14 Laguna Beach players could experience the 9/10

year-old All-Star tournament this year,” Contursi said. “The

enthusiasm is quite high for this team and I’m sure it will be a

great experience for all involved.”

Taylor Pillsbury, whose Quiksilver team won the AAA postseason

tournament title, will manage the All-Star squad.

Mark Curry and Dan McInerny will serve as All-Star coaches.

The new 9/10 All-Star team is comprised of Alex Bekken, Jack

Clark, Travis Clauson, Morgan Curry, Ben Hanson, Andrew Jensen, Tyler

Kessler, Robbie McInerny, Griffin McMullen, Jack Pillsbury, Sawyer

Pierce, Taylor Preston, Travis Sampson and Brian Vail.

Laguna’s other 9/10 All-Star team, selected last week, consists of

Alek Burk, Spencer Friedenrich, Alex Iannotti, Rex Strombotne, Keaton

Jones, Tyler Pierce, Austin Paxson, Alec Loechner, Jake Glazer, Sammy

Witte, Michael Hyden, Steve Contursi and Austin Hilleman and is

managed by Cary Hyden.

Both 9/10 teams begin play in the double-elimination District 55

All-Star tournament on Saturday.
