Robinwood strikes late to take title

The Robinwood Red Sox broke open a scoreless battle in the top of the

sixth inning by scoring four runs and went on to defeat the Seaview

Angels, 4-0, to win the District 62 Tournament of Champions Majors

Division title.

The Red Sox combined a couple of hits and walks with a few Seaview

errors to produce their four runs in a final played at Huntington

Valley Little League.

Robinwood began its rally with a double into the gap and an

intentional walk to put two runners on base.

That brought Paul Strong to the plate and, after several foul tips

and a stacked count, Strong dropped a hit into left field. The hit

brought home the game’s first two runs and sent the Red Sox on their

way to victory.

“It was a great game that went to the end,” said Chris Miller,

Seaview manager. “All the pitchers on both teams pitched really,

really well.”

Chris Czerniachowski threw three innings of scoreless ball for

Seaview. He was relieved by Kyle Boswell who finished the game.

Robinwood’s run to the district title included wins over Costa

Mesa American (6-4), Fountain Valley (7-1) and Ocean View (5-4)

before defeating Seaview in the final.

The Red Sox, the No. 2 team out of Robinwood, defeated three

first-place teams -- Costa Mesa American, Fountain Valley and Seaview

-- during the tournament.

Seaview’s Angels came into the tournament having won their Majors

Division title. They beat the Dodgers in a best-of-three series, 2-1

in games, to bring the league’s No. 1 seed into the tournament.

The Angels reached the title game by outscoring their first three

tournament opponents, 11-1. They recorded wins over Fountain Valley

No. 2 (4-0), Ocean View No. 1 (2-0) and Robinwood No. 1 (5-1).

“We had a good run and a great season,” Miller said. “Our kids

have a lot to be proud of.”
