The Huntington Beach Art

Center Gallery will feature a solo exhibition from Sacramento

artist Joan Moment today through Aug. 9. The exhibit will feature

four series: Hand, Garden Fresco, Nasturtium and Constellation. The

The Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints will present “Hope of America,” a song and

FRIDAY

The annual Surf City 5K Run

and Expo will take place during the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and

will include entertainment, family fun, refreshments and fitness

products in the Expo Village starting at 7 a.m. Registration will

begin at 6 a.m. at Worthy Park on the corner of 17th and Main

streets. Participants can avoid long lines by picking up the race

packet, T-shirt and race number at City Hall on July 3 from 10 a.m.

to 5 p.m. Cost to register is $30 for adults, $10 for children.

Proceeds benefit the Huntington Beach Jr. Lifeguard program.

The largest Independence

Day parade west of the Mississippi River, the Huntington Beach

Fourth of July Parade, features more than 300 entries including

bands, floats, film and television celebrities, local dignitaries,

equestrians and community groups. The parade will begin at the corner

of 8th Street and Pacific Coast Highway at 10 a.m. and end at

Yorktown Avenue and Main Street at noon. Admission is free, and

parking will be closed at Pacific Coast Highway between Beach

Boulevard and Goldenwest Street between 6 a.m. and about 1 p.m.

Parade viewers can enter the Downtown area off Goldenwest on Orange

or Palm avenues. “Staking out” an area for viewing is allowed after

12:01 a.m. on July 2. Items must be removed by 2 p.m. on July 4.

Commemorative celebration merchandise and bleacher seat tickets sold

at $10 each are available along the parade route or can be purchased

at City Hall beginning June 17 or on the city’s Web site now.

SATURDAY

Adventure Playground is open in Central Park. Adventure Playground

is a naturally wooded area with a man-made shallow pond, a mud slide

and cable slide for kids to explore. Activities are limited only by a

child’s imagination. Kids 6 and older are provided hammers, nails,

saws, lumber, old “junk” and rafts to create forts, clubhouses and

unusual looking hide outs. Bring a towel, a change of clothes and

shoes for the children, as well as a bag to carry dirty supplies

home. There are changing rooms and a shower for rinsing. Tie-on shoes

are mandatory -- sandals and water shoes are not allowed in the

playground. The playground is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through

Friday at Central Park near Gothard Street, 7111 Talbert Ave. General

Saturday Sunrise Car

Cruisers, billed as the best free car show in the world, is a

15-year tradition that brings classic and hot rod car collectors,

known as the Donut Derelicts, to the parking lot near 9025 Adams

A free one-and-a-half-hour

Bolsa Chica Wetlands Tour will make stops along the walk-bridge

and loop trail of the wetlands. Trained tour guides will discuss bird

identification, ecology, endangered species, early history and

current status. No reservations are required for the public tour, and

warm clothing and binoculars are recommended. Meet at the walk-bridge

Huntington Beach Central

Park Disc Golf offers players one of the nation’s first 18-hole

disc golf courses at the Goldenwest Street entrance across the street

from the Huntington Beach Public Library and Cultural Center.

Two-round tournaments are held the first Saturday of each month.

Playhouse will present Shakespeare in the Park with performances

of “As You Like It” in the fragrant eucalyptus groves of Central Park

Classical pianist Vern

concert at Huntington Central Park Bandstand. No reservations are

Golden West College
