A 39-year-old Laguna Beach resident died Sunday morning under what

police are calling suspicious circumstances, but the cause of death

is still pending a toxicological study by the Orange County coroner’s

office.

On Sunday morning, Eddie Sosa’s boyfriend found Sosa face down on

the bedroom floor of their home on Encinitas Court and called police

at 9:06 a.m. He told police Sosa had been sick for two weeks and had

been breathing heavily the night before he died.

Police are saying it’s not a murder, but they have deemed it

suspicious despite Sosa’s multiple ailments.

Deputy Rod Thomas of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said

the cause of death won’t be known for another four to six weeks.

Police returned to the Encinitas Court home on Tuesday on a call

of a disturbance and arrested a guest who was visiting Sosa’s

boyfriend for threatening another guest with a butcher knife, Sgt.

Jason Kravetz said.

“This was totally unrelated to Sosa’s death,” Kravetz said. “These

two guys were visiting to console his boyfriend and got in a fight

while he wasn’t even there. A witness said one of them ran in the

street with a butcher knife screaming, so we arrested him.”

Police aren’t releasing names of the parties involved because it’s

still under investigation, but the guest with the butcher knife was

found to be in the country illegally from Mexico. Kravetz said he’d

likely be deported after facing charges here.
