Laguna teams eliminated in district play

The District 55 All-Star Tournament proved to be tough playing ground

for three Laguna Beach Little League All-Star teams.

The league’s two 9 and 10 All-Star teams were eliminated from

district competition Saturday and joined the Majors Division All-Star

team in dropping the first two games in the double-elimination

tournament.

The 9 and 10 All-Star team had its title hopes dashed in its

second game as it was eliminated Saturday by Trabuco, 11-1, at

Tijeras Creek Sports Park.

Previously, Laguna had opened the tournament with a 5-1 loss to

Rancho Mission Viejo.

Laguna’s 9 and 10 District All-Star team dropped its first two

tournament games at Aliso Elementary School.

Following a 9-5 tournament-opening loss to Rancho Santa Margarita,

Laguna was eliminated following a 14-7 defeat to host Saddleback.

In Majors Division play, Laguna lost to Laguna Hills, 10-0, before

being eliminated by Northwood, 12-4.

“We just got out-played,” said Laguna Majors All-Star Manager,

Wendy Pierce. “We had opening-game jitters and we made some errors.

They kids gave it their all, though.”

The 9 and 10 Division All-Star team was comprised of Alek Burk,

Tyler Macrae, Spencer Friedenrich, Alex Iannotti, Rex Strombotne,

Keaton Jones, Tyler Pierce, Austin Paxson, Alec Loechner, Jake

Glazer, Michael Hyden, Sammy Witte, Steve Contursi and Austin

Hilleman.

The 9 and 10 District All-Star team was made up of Alex Bekken,

Jack Clark, Travis Clauson, Morgan Curry, Ben Hanson, Andrew Jensen,

Tyler Kessler, Robbie McInerny, Griffin McMullen, Jack Pillsbury,

Sawyer Pierce, Taylor Preston, Travis Sampson and Brian Vail.

The Majors Division All-Star team consisted of Alex Germano, Gabe

Stansbury, Jaime Melchor, Shane Snyder, Brennen Mulvaney, Alex “Flip”

Shusko, Dillon Pierce, Caine Fair, Jake Sganga, Mike Rubel, Daniel

Selevan, Justin Herbolic and Rory Herbert.
