Former UCI student faces 94 years to life
A Superior Court Judge on Thursday found a former UC Irvine
student guilty of sexually assaulting and torturing a 15-year-old
girl he met on the Internet.
Brian Dance, 21, of Newport Beach was convicted of three counts of
forced penetration, one count of torture and one count each of
robbery and criminal threat. He faces 94 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors said he bound the victim with duct tape and carved a
swastika on her cheek.
Dance, then a UCI sophomore, arranged to meet the victim at the
Block at Orange, investigators said. He took her to an empty parking
lot on campus and assaulted her with his belt and other objects for
more than two hours.
Police arrested Dance on Dec. 23, 2001, with the help of a decoy
-- a friend of the victim, who arranged with Dance online to meet him
at the Block.
The victim testified in the nonjury trial. He had waived his right
to a jury trial.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Steve McGreevy said “justice has been served”
for the victim.
“She was able to articulate to the judge what he did to her,” he
said.
Dance is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 26.
