Newport cyclist breaks legs in collision

A 30-year-old Newport Beach woman suffered a broken leg on

Thursday after her bicycle collided with a car at the intersection of

Orange Avenue and Coast Highway, police said.

Brodie Brickey, 32, of Long Beach was driving westbound on Coast

Highway while Caryn Cain was riding her bicycle on Orange toward the

beach at about 9 a.m., Newport Beach Police Lt. John Klein said.

It’s not clear how the crash occurred or who was at fault, he

said. Cain was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

“At first, we thought the injuries were far more serious,” he

said.

No one was cited or arrested, Klein said.

No injuries after car rams coffee shop

No one was injured after a 59-year-old Westminster man

accidentally rammed his car into a coffee shop on Thursday morning

while backing up, Newport Beach Police officials said.

Officials said Duoc Nguyen was reversing his car out of the

parking lot in the 1200 block of Bison Avenue when his foot stepped

on the accelerator instead of the brakes. He hit the outer wall of

the coffee shop.

Both the car and the wall were damaged in the incident, police

said.
