The ambience of the islands is easy to achieve.

Music tops the list in the mood-creator category. Slack-key guitar

or tribal drumming CDs are easy to find at big book and music stores,

or even small specialty shops.

Your guests will really feel the island experience if they become

part of the props. Aloha shirts are a must for men, while wahines can

go native in grass skirts or mu’umu’us.

As for seating, almost anything goes. Having low tables while

sitting on straw mats is traditional; a picnic table with benches

works just as well. Fishing nets, bamboo placemats and ti leaves all

make excellent table coverings. The sides of tables can be covered

with grass skirts or raffia.
