Soccer camps debut on Monday

Major League Soccer will present three camps for local youngsters

beginning Monday at Lamb Field in Huntington Beach.

The camps will run through Aug. 1 and are presented by AYSO Region

192 Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley.

Camp programs are available for three age groups: Ages 4 to 6 will

be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at a cost of $59 per camper; Ages 7 to 10

will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at a cost of $99 per camper; and

Advanced Camp, open to players 11 years and up, will run between 5

and 8 p.m. with a cost of $99 per camper.

The camps offer instruction in technique and skills training,

games and activities and a post-camp team stadium graduation event.

In addition, campers are given a voucher to attend an upcoming

Major League Soccer game.

Barton earns All-American honor

Daric Barton, who graduated from Marina High in June, was recently

named to the 2003 Student Sports All-America High School Baseball

first-team.

Barton, a first-round draft choice by the St. Louis Cardinals, was

one of three county players named to the first team and was a key

figure in Marina’s march to the 2003 CIF Southern Section Division I

baseball championship in June.

Ian Stewart of La Quinta and El Dorado’s Jeff Flaig also were

named first-team.
