Unbeaten Sandpiper wins first three games to lead pack

Sandpiper remained unbeaten after two weeks of play and leads the

Tuesday/Thursday League standings of the city of Laguna

Beach-sponsored Summer Slow Pitch Softball League.

Sandpiper ran its record to 3-0 by blanking Good, Bad and Ugly,

5-1, and Team Viagra, 8-4, in the second week of the season.

Dave Sommerville led Sandpiper offensively with a three-run home

run in the top of the seventh inning in the win over Good, Bad and

Ugly, then blasted three more home runs, which accounted for five

runs, overall, in the win over Team Viagra.

Steve Lafferty doubled and hit a solo home run and also hit a pair

of home runs in the two victories.

Team Viagra actually led Sandpiper, 3-0, behind consecutive home

runs by Keith Mulvaney, John Verdugo Jr and Ryan Sauers in the first

inning.

Sandpiper, however, came right back in the bottom of the frame and

mirrored Team Viagra’s output as Lafferty, Sommerville and Ryan

Neptune each homered.

In other Tuesday/Thursday League play:

Used Cars 16, Forty Majority 1

Mica Brown delivered a grand slam and also hit two other home runs

in accounting for seven runs to lead Used Cars, which improved to

2-0.

Mike McKenzie homered and singled to drive in four runs.

Bill Burk homered and hit two singles to lead Forty Majority.

Island Shade 11, Rotary 5

Defending division champion Island Shade pounded out 15 hits in

the victory.

Coby Naess led the charge with a pair of home runs and a single.

Mike Sadler homered and doubled and Tom Taylor homered and singled.

Team Hobie 5, Ganahl Lumber 4

A five-run fifth inning carried Team Hobie to the one-run victory.

Team Hobie finished with seven hits overall.

For Ganahl Lumber, leadoff batter Scott Dixon went three for

three, which included two doubles.

Ganahl Lumber 6, Forty Majority 4

John Ward homered and singled to produce four runs overall as

Ganahl Lumber won its first game.

Leadoff batter Robert Bonn homered and doubled to account for two

runs.

Mike Iannatti and Lyle Hudson each doubled and singled twice to

lead Forty Majority.
