Sports World handed its first defeat

Sports World suffered it first loss in Wednesday League play as

defending league champion Mesa Verde Partners scored a 5-4 victory in

City of Laguna Beach-sponsored summer slow pitch softball action.

Mesa Verde (2-1), which moved into a first-place tie with Sports

World, scored each of its runs on solo home runs.

Jim McKinley led the long ball parade with two homers and Danny

Lane, Dave Meggison and Dave Sommerville each had one.

Bill Toon hit a single and home run and Randy Buck added a two-run

single in the second inning for Sports World (2-1).

Sammy’s Burgers 8, Courtesy Auto Body 4

Arlin Reed singled three times and Bill Albert had a three-RBI

double and single to lead Sammy’s Burgers to its first league win in

three starts.

John Verdugo Jr. hit a two-run home run and single and Emilio

Bennard, Kirk Ziegler, Burt Pierson and Jose Vega each had two

singles for Courtesy Auto Body, also 1-2.
