Concert offering jazz with a Newport view

An evening jazz concert by vocalist and sax player Curtis Stigers

is scheduled for 6:30 Sunday night at the Newport Beach Marriott.

The concert in the hotel’s View Lounge will focus on Stigers’

return to jazz in his latest album, “Secret Heart.”

Stigers, who grew up in Idaho, released his first album in 1991.

It sold almost 2 million copies. With his second album in 1995, he

ventured deeper into pop and soul.

The concert is being presented by Joe Rothman. Open seating

tickets are $15, and reserved seating is $25. Information: (949)

759-5003.

The Marriott is at 900 Newport Center Drive.

Yellow pages can be recycled in Costa Mesa

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District and the city of Costa Mesa invite

citizens to drop off their outdated Pacific Bell yellow pages for

recycling.

Collection bins are at these places in Costa Mesa from Friday to

Sept. 19: in the front lot of Costa Mesa City Hall, 77 Fair Drive;

and at Orange Coast College Recycling Center on Adams Avenue between

Fairview and Pinecreek drives. Free special pickup services are

available for 100 or more directories at one location. The recycled

books are used to produce next year’s directories and utility bill

mailing envelopes.

State will help train mortgage workers

A state agency has agreed to help fund job-training for the 600

workers at the Costa Mesa offices of Ditech.com, a leading mortgage

lender.

The California Employment Training Panel has agreed to pay

$358,000 for the program, which will offer employees instruction in

communications, commerce, management, teamwork and continuous

improvement.

Ditech.com was founded in 1995 and purchased by GMAC Mortgage

Corp. in 1999.
