Sailors go water skiing
Brad Raine and Marlo Sciarra, students at Newport Harbor High, will
compete for Team USA at the World Water Ski Racing Championships,
Oct. 11-18 in Long Beach.
The duo from Newport Harbor were selected to the team by the
National Water Ski Racing Association, which governs competitive ski
racing in the U.S. Raine will race in the junior boys division and
Sciarra will compete in the junior girls.
Raine and Sciarra were U.S. national champions in their respective
age classes.
The championships, held every two years, will bring together 60
athletes from 11 countries battling for the sport’s highest prize, a
world title. The U.S. team will compete against other national teams,
including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain,
Italy, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain.
