Newborn kittens found in bushes and abandoned boxes need adopting,

said DiAnna Pfaff-Martin, founder of the Newport Beach-based

Community Animal Network.

“Most shelters euthanize the pregnant momma cats and

bottle-feeders because of the time and money needed to keep them

all,” Pfaff-Martin said.

Kittens are a lot of work for volunteers and new foster parents,

she said.

Justice Flenniken, 4, rescued two hungry kittens from a box left

outside a pet store when store personnel refused to take them,

Pfaff-Martin said.

The kittens are now being safeguarded through the network’s “Good

Citizen Rescue Program,” which trains rescuers with the information,

tools and supplies they need to care for young, bottle-feeding

animals, she said.

The network has 23 new 8-week-old kittens arriving for adoption

and there are more than 200 kittens in its foster program,

Pfaff-Martin said.

“People just love the quality of kittens because they are healthy

and live in private homes with people who love them,” she said.
