It’s time for Blues on the Bay again

The Sons of the American Legion, informally known as the SAL, invites

you to attend its sixth annual Blues on the Bay Festival on Aug. 23.

For a $25 admission, groove to Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets

featuring Sam Myers, the Hollywood Blue Flames with Al Blake, Rusty

Zinn, Gary Primach and his Doghouse Blues, the Holland K Smith Band,

Nathan James with Ben Hernandez, and the Griff Hamlin Band.

The locale will be American Legion Post 291, at 215 15th St.,

Newport Beach. The masters of ceremonies will be Phatt Cat of

“Kaleidoscope of Blues” from KSBR-FM (88.5) and Jeff Scott of “The

Blues Disease” from KUCI-FM (88.9).

Available will be a New Orleans Cajun feast cooked by SAL members

and beverages to quench the thirst. Please do not bring chairs,

coolers or pets. In addition, there will be drawings for prizes.

Proceeds from the day’s activities will be going to charity. The

festival will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

15TH ANNUAL

TASTE OF NEWPORT

Headliner entertainment for the 2003 Taste of Newport is set, with

Super Diamond playing on Friday, Sept. 19, Sugar Ray on Saturday,

Sept. 20 and the Beach Boys on Sunday, Sept. 21.

“There will be music for just about everyone’s taste,” said

Richard Luehrs, president and chief executive of the Newport Beach

Chamber of Commerce.

Thirty-five top area restaurants have signed up for the three-day

food, wine and music festival being held at Newport Center/ Fashion

Island.

“The Taste of Newport marks the end of the summer social season in

Newport Beach and is the premiere food festival in Southern

California,” Luehrs said.

The event draws more than 70,000 people to Newport Center Drive.

More than 900 volunteers help to make this a great event.

The Los Angeles Times is the presenting sponsor. Other major

sponsors are McKenna Motors, Fiji Water, Bacardi, Michelob, Hoag

Hospital, Pavilions Market, Wells Fargo and Ware Disposal. There’s

also radio support from major market stations.

Tickets cost $15 is advance or $17 at the gate. Advance tickets

can be purchased by phone at (949) 729-4400 or online at

www.tasteofnewport.com. A special weekend passport is available for

$45 that includes three-day admission and $15 scrip.

AAUW MEMBERSHIP TEA

The American Assn. of University Women, Newport-Mesa-Irvine

branch, is hosting its annual membership tea overlooking Newport’s

Back Bay from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 24.

This tea is for current and prospective members to hear about the

AAUW’s activities this year, its interest groups and its fund-raising

projects for Tech Trek, Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy

Fund.
