RETIREMENT CELEBRATION

The Rev. Barbara Haynes, minister of Resurrection Beach

Metropolitan Community Church for the past five years, will be

retiring after more than 20 years of active ministry. To honor her,

the church will host a buffet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the social hall.

Her farewell celebration will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. It

will include special music and speakers. Afterward, there will be a

social hour with coffee and dessert. The church is at 1259 Victoria

HISTORICAL IMPRESSIONIST

Historical impressionist Peter Small is coming to Temple Isaiah of

SHABBAT ALIVE

“Shabbat Alive,” a new style of jazz and pop services first

created in South America, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at

University Synagogue. Rabbi Arnold Rachlis’ focus will be on

spirituality, and Cantor Braier will be accompanied by a combo of

musicians and the University Synagogue choir. The services are

sponsored by the Roslyn and Joseph Baim Family Foundation. University

A free “lectio divina” meditation group meeting is held at 7:10
