Joel H. Manchester

Services were held Monday for Joel H. Manchester, a director of

cardiology at Hoag Hospital for more than 20 years who was widely

credited with helping to bring world-class cardiac care to Orange

County. Dr. Manchester died Saturday. He was 62.

Dr. Manchester’s career with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian

began in 1974 and included a number of accomplishments in cardiology.

He helped establish the Hoag Hearth and Vascular Institute, developed

numerous initiatives and patient-care procedures that helped earn

widespread acclaim for the hospital’s cardiovascular programs.

A Newport Beach resident, Dr. Manchester was active in the

hospital’s fund-raising group and served on the committee for its

annual SweetHeart Ball. He was awarded the heart institute’s first

Vin Jorgensen Award in 1992 for his volunteer work.

Dr. Manchester is survived by wife Colleen; their four children;

and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that

contributions be made to Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute or Hoag

Cancer Center.

Marvin T. Pursell

Services for 50-year Costa Mesa resident Marvin T. Pursell will be

held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pacific View Mortuary Chapel. Dr.

Pursell died Saturday of natural causes. He was 83. He is survived by

sons Marvin Jr., John and James Pursell; daughters Mary Pursell,

Kathleen Pursell-Monson and Yvette Pursell-Rudenski; and nine

grandchildren.

Richard David Human

Services for 15-year Newport Beach resident Richard David Human

will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church

in Newport Beach. Mr. Human died Aug. 18. He was 73. He is survived

by companion Rose Marie Koehn.
