Huntington Beach girls’ polo second at tourney
The Huntington Beach Water Polo Foundation’s Under-14 girls’ team
returned to Surf City with a second-place finish in the Girls’
16-and-Under Division at the Maui Invitational Tournament.
Teams from the U.S. and Canada competed at the four-day event
which is in its fourth year.
Huntington Beach played California teams from Porterville and
Manhattan Beach as well as teams from Maui and Oahu.
Scott Miller, a coach for the Huntington Beach Water Polo
Foundation, coached the Under-14 girls’ team at the tournament.
The 14 and under girls’ team, which has played together for less
than a year and has placed in every tournament it has entered, is
comprised of Sharon Baillie, Jamie Bee, Nash Bellows, Emily Clopp,
Rebecca Clopp, Amelia Huss, Caitlin Jorgensen, Kristin Kulawkowski,
Keeley McCormack, Alyssa Steiner, Lauren Reilly and Sophie Waldron.
Huntington Beach Water Polo Foundation, founded in 2002, is a
nonprofit, parent-run organization dedicated to offering coaching in
fundamentals and skills allowing each youngster to maximize their
potential in the water and in life.
The foundation holds practices year-round at the Huntington Beach
High pool.
Rookies Soccer registration continues
Registration for Rookies Soccer continues to be taken for the
upcoming season at the West County Family Branch YMCA in Huntington
Beach.
The six-week league season, which begins Sept. 22 and runs through
Oct. 30, is open to children ages 3 to 7.
Registration will be taken until Sept. 12.
The West County Family Branch YMCA offers a noncompetitive,
progressive sports program designed to teach children the
fundamentals of sport emphasizing skill development, character
development, sportsmanship and safety, in a fun environment.
