Cooking breakfast and filling school boxes

The Harbor Mesa Lions Club cooked and served breakfast at the Ronald

McDonald House in Orange, which is the “home away from home” for

families of children with serious illnesses who are undergoing

treatment at a nearby hospital.

Club members also collect aluminum can tabs for this charity.

Jennifer Kelder is the chairwoman of this project.

Club members are eagerly awaiting the start of school. For the

fourth year, members have been preparing covered shoeboxes for

filling with school supplies needed by first graders at the Whittier

School in Costa Mesa. Organized by chairwomen Eunice Thomason and

Gina Stansbury, the project will provide 200 boxes filled with

pencils, erasers, scissors, rulers, glue, crayons and other supplies

for the students. The boxes will be handed out on Thursday.

Because of the Labor Day holiday, the Harbor Mesa Lions will not

meet the first Monday of the month but on Monday, Sept. 8, at the

Costa Mesa Country Club, at 6:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be

Tiffany Mejia of the Families of Costa Mesa organization.

ANDY MCCARTNEY

Andy McCartney was installed as 18th president of the Exchange

Club of Orange Coast at a dinner meeting at the Bahia Corinthian

Yacht Club. Serving with McCartney on the board of directors are Bob

Scott, president elect; Bette Moses, vice president for programs;

Shirley Kohlmeier, secretary; Bob Jessen, treasurer; and Tom Keyes,

immediate past president.

UPDATED WEB SITE

Thanks to the good work of member Ryan Kussner, the Rotary Club of

Newport-Balboa’s Web site has been updated, making it easier to

explore and for members to add information about future club meetings

and events.

“Members can log on to the member-only section and update their

personal address information,” Kussner said. “The program chair can

log on and update the monthly calendars without having to go through

the Webmaster.”

The site also has links to other Rotary sites in Orange County and

around the world. Check it out at https://www.newportbalboa.org.

WORTH REPEATING
