Hess gets VU honor

Matt Hess, a junior forward for the Vanguard University men’s soccer

team, has been named Lion of the Week after an outstanding

performance in the Westminster College Tournament in West Jordan,

Utah.

Hess helped Vanguard start the 2003 season with an impressive 3-0

record and a tournament title. He scored two goals in the Lions’

tournament-opening 3-2 win over Westminster College of Utah.

He then scored the only goal in a 1-0 triumph over Colorado School

of Mines, which was ranked No. 20 in the NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division

II men’s preseason poll.

He capped his three-game heroics with two more goals and an assist

to lead the Lions to a 4-0 victory over Embry Riddle Aeronautical

University of Arizona.
