Rodman released same day as arrest

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who was arrested Thursday afternoon

under suspicion of being drunk in public, was released from Newport

Beach city jail the same night “after he sobered up,” officials said.

Rodman’s wife picked him up from the jail at about 8 p.m. and

drove him home, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County

Sheriff’s Department.

Harbor Patrol deputies arrested Rodman near the Cannery Restaurant

after receiving a tip from a caller that he was driving his 48-foot

powerboat in Newport Harbor while drunk.

Usually, people arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness are

released after they sober up, which is what happened to Rodman,

Amormino said. When deputies arrested Rodman on Thursday, he was

visibly intoxicated and “unable to care for himself,” Amormino said.

No charges have been filed, he said.
