Time heals, scars remain

They say time heals all wounds.

Two years ago today, we all took a stab to the heart that back

then seemed mortal. The pain was unbearable, the shock beyond belief.

That dark Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, Americans were attacked by 19

airplane hijackers doing the bidding of fanatical killers.

We all know the story: the attack at the Pentagon, the Twin Towers

of the World Trade Center in New York City turned to flaming rubble

and a field in Pennsylvania was smoldering after a band of heroes

thwarted the murderous intents of the terrorists aboard.

In all, more than 3,000 innocent victims of terrorism lost their

lives that day. Police and firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice

in an attempt to save more lives.

And the rest of us, we just felt the pain.

Why would someone do this to us? Why were so many families left

grieving? How would we ever be the same? How would we recover?

Two years and two wars later, those questions are still being

answered but we are starting to see progress. We are starting to look

at the world in a better light again.

Today, we can do more toward that cause.

Today, we can take a minute and reflect on those who perished on

that fateful day.

Today, we can spend some time at a church or a synagogue or a

temple.

Today, we can thank a firefighter or policeman for all they do.

Today, we can do a little less complaining and a little more

praising.

Today, we can give a little more to charity.

Today, we can give comfort to someone else in pain.

Today, we can hug our family and our friends and make sure we

cherish every moment.

Today, we can be on our guard just a little more than usual.

Because today is a day we can never forget. Today is a day that

will be forever seared in our memory.

What they say is right.

Time does heal all wounds, but the scars are forever.
