INSIDE THE DISTRICT

Here are decisions coming out of Tuesday night’s Newport-Mesa

Unified School District meeting.

REPORT ON MEASURE A

The district received a report from project manager McCarthy

Building Companies, detailing what Measure A-funded construction has

been done on schools through the quarter ending June 30. The report

also describes ongoing activities for the third quarter, closing at

the end of September.

McCarthy Director Bonnie Martin said that the third-quarter

activities should be completed on schedule.

The board also received a quarterly report from the Measure A

Citizens’ Oversight Committee, which evaluates project progress.

WHAT THEY SAID

Reading from the citizens’ report, Committee Chairman Mark

Buchanan said: “The [Citizens’ Oversight Committee] believes that

adequate progress is being made and that all activities taken to date

are consistent with Measure A and the Master Plan.”

“[The teachers and parents] really were supportive,” President

Martha Fluor said “They understood it wasn’t perfect but realize the

next two weeks will be great.”
