Gators defeat Patriots, 4-2

Camden Nicholson scored two goals and the Gators opened their season

with a 4-2 victory over the Patriots in a boys under-14 AYSO Region

57 soccer game.

The Gators took a 2-0 lead on goals from Nicholson and Dillon

Norton only to have the Patriots tie it, 2-2.

James Petrilli then kicked the go-ahead goal and Nicholson scored

the capper on a penalty shot.

Russell Goldberg, Michael McHugh, Danny Baker, Scott Berkhausen,

Paul Bioche, Kenny Cooper, David Grant, Jon Kiani, Sam Nadlman,

Maxwell Newfield and Eric Wright added strong play.

* CdM Blues 4, Costa Mesa Galaxy 1

The Blues received goals from Miles Kellerman, Kevin Wang, Connor

Bannan and Chris Alaghband before Costa Mesa avoided the shutout with

a late score.

Kellerman scored on a penalty kick that deflected off the Costa

Mesa goalkeeper in the first half to break a 1-1 tie.

Jeremy Hyter and Peter McCormack split time in goal for CdM.

In girls under-12 action:

* Breakers 1, Mint Chip 0

Stephany Bibiano redirected a Bridget Fox cross beyond the Mint

Chip goalkeeper’s reach to score the game-winner in the second half.

Natalie Chase, Fox and Maddie Ludlow shared goalkeeping duties for

the Breakers. Sweeper MacKensie Ludlow anchored a strong defense.

In boys under-12 play:

* Bad Boys 1, Hawks 0

Aaron Varastah scored off a cross from Nick Flamson for the game’s

lone goal.

Both teams displayed stellar defenses.

Alex Ludlow, Jarrett Logan, Nick Manning, Matt Wilkerson and Koomi

Chehabi led the Bad Boys’ defense.

Goalkeepers Michael Hassman and Evan Danielle stopped several Hawk

shot attempts.

The Bad Boys’ midfield was anchored by Michael Drews, Reid Johnson

and Chris Fountleroy.

In boys under-11 action:

* CdM Select 2, Tustin 0

Jack Gorab and Mason Case scored goals for CdM’s third shutout in

four games.

Gorab scored on a 15-foot blast off assists by Kjell Wolker and

Taylor Ross. Case scored on a boot from near midfield following a

pass from Brent Lawson.

Nick Curci, Brent Gray, Garrett Larson, Will Morrow and Jensen

Rhinehart thwarted numerous scoring chances for Tustin.

Clark Cashion posted his third shutout in four games, but was

relieved by Brennan Anderson in the fourth quarter due to illness.

Hector Marino and Blake Thomsen also played well on offense.

In boys under-10 play:

* The Flames won their opener, 4-1, on two goals by Davis Case

with single tallies by Greg Allen and Dillon Thies.

Will Ferrero, Nick Cord and Nick Dills played strong defense while

Blake Grable, James Valentine and Mike Allen rotated in goal.

* The Stingrays won their opener, 6-1, with two first-quarter

goals by J.D. Dawn.

Kevin Baran-Maguire, Alex Parsons and Caden Stark added goals in

the third and fourth quarters.

Dawn completed the scoring with a goal off a corner kick to seal

the win. Aaron Schott also played well.

* A.J. Jenkins scored a goal and Eli Kiani played a strong

goalkeeper for the Green Goblins.

In boys under-7 action:

* Brett Davidson and Teddy Somekh scored goals to lead the

Incredible Hulks over the Red Devils.
