Bill DeMeulle is this year’s chairman of the Exchange Club of the

Harbor Area annual movie benefit, which will be held Oct. 23 at the

Lido Theatre. This year’s film will be “The Black Rose,” with Orson

Welles, Tyrone Power, Jack Hawkins and Michael Rennie. “Again this

year we will have the food festival by a dozen Newport area

restaurants,” DeMeulle said. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and the

classic movie starts at 7:30 p.m.

DeMeulle added that proceeds from this charity event support the

Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center and other local

youth-centered community programs. Tickets for the movie and food

festival are $40 and are payable to “The Exchange Club Charitable

Foundation.” VIP seating is available at $60 per ticket. All are

invited to this fun-filled and casual evening of food, wine and

PANERA RESPONDS TO SOS

The grand opening of Panera Bread Bakery-Cafe, in the new Bluff

Shopping Center on Sept. 25 will be for the benefit for Share Our

Selves, Lee Healy said. From 6 to 8 p.m. guests, at $15 per person,

will enjoy a delicious evening of Panera’s bountiful fare while SOS

will receive much needed funds for it work in our communities. Panera

JUNIOR SAILORS SET OFF

The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club is offering beginner and advance

sailing lessons to members and the public. For the six-session

beginner class, which introduces participants to the exciting world

of sailing, you must be at least 6 years old, said Erin Frederick,

program coordinator. Sessions are held on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

and students must have their own Sabot. The advance program is held

at the same time and costs $185 per person for the six lessons. For

AAUW HOLDS LUNCHEON

The American Assn. of University Women, Newport-Mesa-Irvine

branch, will hold its Tech Trek luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. at the

Bluffs Homeowners Assn. Clubhouse, 2414 Vista del Oro, Newport Beach

on Sunday, Sept. 28. The Tech Trek summer attendee to the science

camp will be telling of her experiences at the salad and dessert

luncheon. The cost is $15, which will go toward funding another

camper next summer.

The Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly
