Conductor Carl St. Clair leads the Pacific Symphony in

“Tchaikovsky’s Greatest Hits,” an all Tchaikovsky program, at 8 p.m.

AND MAHLER’

The Family Classics Season for the Orange County Performing Arts

Center will feature a gala opening night on Oct. 8 with a concert by

the Pacific Symphony featuring the world’s great violin virtuosos,

Midori. She will play Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra

in E minor. Carl St. Clair will then lead the orchestra in a

performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D minor. The concert will

also be given on Oct. 9. Both performances are at 7 p.m. Tickets are

$20 to $65. The center is at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa.

Olivia Newton-John will be performing at the Orange County

VIOLIN CONCERTO

Violinist Karen Gomyo will perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Conceto in

E minor at the Orange County Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. Oct.

11. When she was 19 years old, Gomyo became the youngest winner of

the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Tickets cost $32

OCC SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Orange Coast Community College’s Symphony Orchestra will open its

43rd season on at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 with Mozart’s Symphony No. 35,

the “Hafner,” and Haydn’s Symphony No. 45, the “Farewell.” Other

concerts will be on Nov. 23 and May 9. All concerts are scheduled for

7:30 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. Tickets are $8 and $10 and
