TONIGHT’S GAMES

Huntington Beach (0-2) vs. Capistrano Valley (0-2)

(at Capistrano Valley High, 7 p.m.)

The matchup is between two teams looking to post their first

victory of the season.

Capistrano Valley is taking on its second Sunset League foe in two

weeks -- last week, the Cougars couldn’t muster anything on offense

and were shut out by Edison, 27-0.

They opened the season with a 21-7 loss to unbeaten Aliso Viejo.

Huntington is coming off a 33-16 loss to Costa Mesa.

Quarterback Rory Schoonmaker hit Mitch Roemer with a screen pass

and Roemer turned the play into an 87-yard touchdown.

Schoonmaker also scored on a three-yard run.

If the Oilers can find a passing game -- Edison burned the Capo

Valley for 280 yards through the air -- then they just might find

that first victory.

Last year’s score: Huntington 26, Capo Valley 7

FRIDAY’S GAMES

Mission Viejo (2-0) vs. Marina (1-0)

(at Westminster High, 7 p.m.)

Will Marina be able to play the role of streak buster Friday when

they host the county’s top-ranked team?

Mission Viejo rolls into Boswell Field as the owner of an

impressive 30-game win streak, of which previous wins over Marina are

included.

The Diablos are two victories shy of tying Edison’s all-time

county win streak which is 32 games, set between the mid-1979 season

through the 1981 regular season.

Their streak nearly came to an end in their 2003 opener but the

Diablos held on for a 14-13 victory over Fountain Valley.

Mission Viejo upped its record to 2-0 with an impressive 22-11

victory over Mater Dei last Friday.

Chane Moline rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown, quarterback

Mark Sanchez threw for 129 yards and a touchdown on 10 of 11 passing and Jedidiah Collins rushed for a touchdown and had an interception

against the Monarchs.

Marina nearly knocked off Newport Harbor last Friday, but a late

rally fell short in an eventual 10-6 defeat.

Marina’s lone score came when Matt Brennan hooked up with Jason

Burch on a 32-yard touchdown pass.

The Vikings gave the host Diablos fits in last September’s

meeting. Can they do it again?

Last year’s score: Mission Viejo 10, Marina 7

Santa Fe (2-0) vs. Edison (2-0)

(at Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.)

The first meeting between the two schools came about late in the

scheduling, as both schools were looking to fill out their nonleague

schedules.

Edison comes into the game having spanked Capistrano Valley, 27-0

-- the Chargers’ second shutout in their past six games.

Don’t be fooled by Santa Fe’s Division VII status -- the Chiefs

can play football at any level.

They are 2-0 entering Friday’s contest, having wiped out John

Glenn, 55-0, and last week, they nearly posted another shutout but a

late safety resulted in a 49-2 rout of rival Montebello.

Last year’s score: teams didn’t meet.

SATURDAY’S GAME

Ocean View (1-1) vs. Century (1-2)

(at Santa Ana Bowl, 7 p.m.)

In a Saturday night tussle, Ocean View meets a Century team that

already has three games under its belt.

The Centurions are coming off a tough, 22-20 loss to Estancia, in

which they rallied for 20, second half points.

Hebron Fungupo had a highlight game for Century with two

interceptions, one in which he returned 15 yards for a score.

The Centurions’ victory came at the expense of Bolsa Grande,

51-14.

Ocean View will try to bounce back from a 40-0 loss to Tesoro.

Seahawks quarterback Alex Hickerson suffered a hamstring injury on

Ocean View’s second play from scrimmage and is doubtful for the game.

Last year’s score: Ocean View 31, Century 27
