American Assn. of University

Women is looking for volunteers to work with children at El Morro

Elementary School. Anyone who enjoys reading with children or helping

with homework is welcome and needed. The Help a Child Program is

during school hours and the volunteer would work in the school room

with the teacher, often in small groups. The Learning Club is after

school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and is usually with one

student who needs help. Both programs are rewarding for children and

Boys & Girls Club of Laguna

Beach provides sports, homework, arts and crafts and mentoring

Bridge Learning Center for

Homeless Children Inc. is seeking mentors to talk to children

living in this transitional shelter to improve their self-esteem.

Mentors work for one hour a week at the shelter. They must be 16 or

older and be able to drive themselves to the shelter. The Bridge

Volunteers are needed to staff the

Friends of Laguna Beach Library Book Shop, open Monday through

Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., staying open until 6 or 7 p.m.

Wednesday. Staffers will sell books in the book shop, President

The Festival of Arts is recruiting

volunteers to serve as docents for this year’s festival.

Requirements include a passion for art, good verbal skills,

availability for a training course and a flexible summer schedule.

Friends of the Sea Lion Marine

Mammal Center needs volunteers to work as docents or in animal

care for all days all shifts. Shifts are a minimum of four hours in

the morning or afternoon and require a one-year commitment. Must be

The Friendship Shelter provides

temporary housing and meals for homeless adults. The shelter needs

“guest chefs” to fix dinner and enjoy the meal with the 29 residents.

Food can be prepared ahead of time and brought to the shelter or be

Friends of the Hortense Miller

Garden are looking for volunteers to perform tasks such as

watering the garden and conducting public tours. Training is

The Laguna Club for Kids provides structured activities ad care

for children ages 5 to 12 in a home-like setting. Volunteers will

help staff manage organized games, arts and crafts and computer lab.
