HISTORY OF HITCHCOCK

Orange Coast College is offering a nine-part film history on

Alfred Hitchcock beginning Friday. The series will be moderated by

retired OCC professor H. Arthur Taussig. Each session will be held at

The Family Classics Season for the Orange County Performing Arts

Center will feature a gala opening night on Oct. 8 with a concert by

the Pacific Symphony featuring one of the world’s great violin

virtuosos, Midori. She will play Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin

and Orchestra in E minor. Carl St. Clair will then lead the orchestra

in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D minor. The concert

‘THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO’

South Coast Repertory will present “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” at

Segerstrom Stage through Sunday, Oct. 5. The performance is set in

1939 in Atlanta, when the war on the minds of the locals is the Civil

War, as depicted in “Gone with the Wind.” But for Lala and her

family, nothing could be more important than her debut at Ballyhoo, a

“Paintings of Mexico and Japan” by art professor Howard Hitchcock

TWO BY THE KIROV BALLET

set to classical works. The second program, George Balanchine’s
