Threat at JWA turns out to be a hoax

An anonymous bomb threat at John Wayne Airport, which was phoned

in to the Irvine Police Department on Tuesday afternoon, turned out

to be a hoax, officials said.

The call reportedly came in at 12:33 p.m., said Justin McCusker,

spokesman for John Wayne Airport.

“Airport officials and Orange County Sheriff’s deputies did a

search and determined there was no credible threat,” he said.

McCusker said the threat did not cause any delays.

Plane lands safely after trouble

A single-engine Cessna landed on its belly at John Wayne Airport

Monday afternoon after its landing gear did not deploy, officials

said.

The pilot radioed the tower at about 3:30 p.m. explaining his

problem, said airport spokesman Justin McCusker.

“He circled around the airport for an hour and a half while

attempting to deploy his landing gear,” he said. “But he was

unsuccessful.”

The pilot then landed without the gear at about 5 p.m. and was

able to walk away from the aircraft, McCusker said.

The pilot was uninjured, he said.

The airplane was based at John Wayne Airport with one of the

flight training schools, McCusker said.
