Marina golfers now 6-0

In girls’ golf action Monday, Marina improved to 6-0 on the season

with a 198-242 nonleague victory over visiting Cypress at Meadowlark

Golf Course.

Jennifer Osborn shot a 1-under-par 35, Jane Chin shot a 1-over 37

and Cynthia Pham shot a 41 to pace the Vikings.

In girls’ tennis Monday, Huntington Beach blanked Westminster,

18-0 to improve to 3-1 and Marina evened its record at 3-3 with a

16-2 rout of Loara.

In girls’ volleyball, Ocean View ran its Golden West League record

to 2-0 with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-12, 19-25, 15-7 win over Costa Mesa.

The Seahawks also played in the University Tournament in Irvine

and reached the quarterfinal round before being defeated by

Northwood.

In boys’ water polo, Huntington Beach defeated its second Top 10

ranked Division II foe when the Oilers downed No. 6 Saddleback, 13-6,

in nonleague action at Huntington Beach.

Robert Riker led the Oilers in scoring with four goals and Bill

Meripol, Nick Sullivan and Bryce Elser each netted three goals.

The latest CIF rankings were released Monday and in girls’

volleyball, defending CIF champion Marina is ranked No. 1 in Division

IA and Edison was No. 3 and Huntington Beach No. 5 in the Division

IIAA poll.

Marina is No. 6 in Division I; girls’ cross country: Marina is No. 6

in Division I; girls’ tennis: Edison is No. 6 in Division II; boys’

water polo: Marina is No. 5 and Edison No. 9 in Division II.
