Edison faces Mater Dei

TONIGHT’S GAME

Edison (3-0) vs. Mater Dei (0-3)

(at Santa Ana Bowl, 7 p.m.)

The 17th meeting between the Edison and Mater Dei will feature

teams heading in opposite directions.

Mater Dei is 0-3 for the first time since the 1989 season.

The Monarchs have faced a tough schedule, though, losing to No. 2

Orange Lutheran (Division VI), Mission Viejo, ranked first in

Division II and the division’s reigning two-time champion and J.W.

North, ranked second in Division V.

Offensively, the Monarchs are led by quarterback Jason Forcier and

Brandon Nicolas is a terror on both sides of the line.

Edison is 3-0 and coming off a 13-6 victory over a talented Santa

Fe team.

The Chargers defense paved the way in the win. Abel Cardona and

Joshua Gage led the Edison rushing attack and each scored a

touchdown.

Orange Lutheran (3-0) vs. Marina (1-2)

(at Westminster High, 7 p.m.)

Marina’s march through a murderous nonleague schedule continues

with a date against undefeated Orange Lutheran.

The Vikings have played Newport Harbor and Mission Viejo the past

two weeks, teams that 6-0 heading into this weekend’s action.

Orange Lutheran opened the season with a resounding victory over

Mater Dei and last week improved to 3-0 with a 56-7 thrashing of

Santa Paula.

Quarterback Seth Blackamore directs a very potent Lancers offense

that is averaging 47 points per game.

Blackamore threw for 295 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 51-6

rout of Long Beach Millikan two weeks ago. In the Santa Paula win, he

completed just five passes and played only the first half, but all

five went for touchdowns.

Already, Blackamore has thrown for 678 yards and nine touchdowns.

Marina had it tough last week against Mission Viejo, the No. 1

team in Division II, and became the Diablos’ 31st consecutive victim

in a 48-22 defeat.

Matt Brennan ran 66 yards for one score and threw touchdown passes

for Marina.

Estancia (2-1) vs. Ocean View (1-2)

(at Ocean View High, 7 p.m.)

Ocean View will attempt to end a losing streak at two games

against an upstart Estancia program under first-year coach Craig

Fertig.

The Eagles won their first two games but fell to Katella last

week, 27-6.

Brian Kapko is the key rusher in the Estancia backfield and is

averaging 99 yards per game the first three weeks.

Ocean View was defeated by Century last week, 34-7. The Seahawks

were playing without the services of starting quarterback Alex

Hickerson, who suffered a hamstring injury the previous week against

Tesoro.

The Seahawks have been outscored their last two games, 74-7, and

will be looking to record their first-ever victory at Seahawk

Stadium.

Huntington Beach (0-3) vs. Laguna Hills (3-0)

(at Mission Viejo High, 7 p.m.)

Huntington Beach will be looking for its first victory of the

season against a red-hot Laguna Hills squad.

The Oilers mustered just eight points in a 17-8 setback last week

to Capistrano Valley.

Laguna Hills rolled last week to a 34-7 victory over Jurupa

Valley. Quarterback Chris Lamkin threw for 212 yards and three

touchdowns in the win.

Laguna Hills is ranked sixth in Division VI.
