Fran Miehl

A funeral mass for Costa Mesa resident Fran Miehl is scheduled for

Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on the Balboa

Peninsula.

Mrs. Miehl died Saturday. She was 89.

Mrs. Miehl is survived by a daughter, Sharon Fairborn; sons Peter

and Christopher Miehl; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to

Hilbert College to establish a scholarship fund for women who return

to college later in life. Donations may be mailed to the college:

Attn. Sister Edmunette, 5200 S. Park Ave. Hamburg, NY 14075.

The mass on Monday is scheduled for 2 p.m.

David Edmund Davin

A memorial mass for Mr. David Edmund Davin, a former Costa Mesa

Police Reserve officer, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at St.

Killian Catholic Church, at 26872 Estanciero Drive in Mission Viejo.

Mr. Davin died Wednesday of cancer in South Dakota. He was 69.

An aerospace engineer, Mr. Davin moved to California after

graduating from the University of Notre Dame. He worked for Southern

California corporations such as Boeing, Northrop Aviation and

Rockwell International. During that time he lived in Costa Mesa and

Mission Viejo. He moved to South Dakota after his retirement.

He did extensive work on lunar orbiter applications and design

support for Earth orbiting space stations.

Mr. Davin was also fascinated with Native American lore and

learned the subject from renowned experts.

He is survived by his sons Michael, Mark and William Davin;

grandchildren Hailey, Madison, Amy Kaitlyn and Christian; and sister

Donna Lindgren.
