Kucinich to speak in Laguna
Democratic candidate for president Dennis Kucinich will speak at
Neighborhood Congregational Church on Sunday.
Among the things Kucinich will discuss will be his vision for a
peaceful America and a unified world.
He will be at the church from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. The church is
at 340 W. St. Ann’s Drive. Refreshments will be served.

Laguna Democrats host meeting
The Laguna Beach Democratic Club will host its October meeting on
Thursday.
The club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month at
939 Glenneyre St., in the Laguna Board of Realtor’s building. Enter
from the back parking lot.
Thursday’s guest is Paul Egly, who will discuss the judicial
branch of the government.
Time to join or help Girl Scouts
Girl Scout troops are forming now in Laguna Beach.
Girls ages 5 to 17 are invited to join, and adults are needed as
leaders, special event assistants, guest speakers and other volunteer
positions.
Volunteers do not need to be parents. Women from 18 to 30 are
especially needed as role models for the Scouts.

Garden fund-raiser plant sale set
The Friends of the Hortense Miller Garden will host a fund-raising
plant sale at the Farmer’s Market.
The sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 11 at the Lumberyard
Mall, next to City Hall.
The group will sell plants, bulbs, pots, vases and other garden
items. All proceeds go to maintain and preserve the Hortense Miller
Garden.
Tours of the garden are by reservation through the city recreation

Dilly Dinner date nearing
The Laguna Greenbelt’s Dilly Dinner will be Oct. 16.
Park volunteers will be honored at the meeting, which will begin
at 6:30 p.m. at Tivoli Terrace on the festival grounds.

Input needed for cultural arts plan
The Laguna Beach Arts Commission and Cultural Arts Department are
working on updating a cultural arts plan for the city. The Arts
Commission is seeking help from the community to identify resources,
assess local needs and improve access to arts programs and art
education.

Bink-A-Thon will be at high school
The Southern California Binky Patrol’s “Comforting Covers for
Kids” will host its eighth annual Bink-A-Thon on Oct. 25 at Laguna
Beach High School.
The event is organized to produce as many blankets as possible in
one day for ill, abused and disadvantaged children.
Twelve Binky Patrol chapters throughout the nation will
participate in the Bink-A-Thon. This year, the goal is 5,000 blankets
nationwide.
The Bink-A-Thon will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high
school, at 625 Park Ave. Those who wish to donate funds or volunteer,

Exchange Club aids wetlands
The Exchange Club of Laguna Beach will help the Bolsa Chica
Wetlands Conservancy clear ice plant from 30 acres of land to restore
the natural habitat on Rabbit Island.
The work is part of the Exchange Club’s National Day of Service on
Oct. 25. Volunteers are invited to help with the project from 9 a.m.
to noon. Gloves and tools will be provided or helpers may bring their
own. The work site is off-trail, so dress appropriately.
Members will meet at 9 a.m. in the south parking lot, one mile
south of Warner Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach,
across from the beach.
The club meets at 12:15 p.m. at Hotel Laguna the first three
