The Newport Coast Concours

d’Elegance will be held at Hidden Valley Park in Irvine next to

Scooter Series No. 6 will be

held at the Orange County Fair & Exposition Center’s Equestrian

KCRW will present Next Up!, formerly known as Unsigned Indies, a

showcase of independent local artists, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Town

Center Park in Costa Mesa. The free, all-ages twilight concert kicks

The Newport Beach Fire and

Police departments will present a combined open house at the

Newport Center Fire Station and Police Headquarters, 866 Barbara

Drive, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be displays from the Newport

Beach lifeguards, Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol and other

emergency services. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be available.

The Orange County Market Place

will celebrate 35 years from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orange County

Fairgrounds. The theme will be “California Dreamin’.” There will be

free birthday cake and 35-cent foods and drinks. Entertainment will

include 1960s music, strolling performers and the presentation of

donations to Costa Mesa charitable and nonprofit organizations.

The Queen of Hearts Tux and Tennies Tennis Tournament will

continue at 6:30 p.m. at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. The

tournament will continue Oct. 11 and 12 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $60

per person for first entry and $30 per person for the second entry.

MONDAY

The Pacific Community of Secular Humanistic Jews will present a

Yom Kippur observance at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Costa

Mesa. The event will consist of a Yom Kippur program, discussions on

medical ethics, Jewish history through music and the roadmap to

Orange Coast College will

host a public debate on the sale of KOCE-TV. The debate is

sponsored by the United Student Sociologists. The debate will begin

at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Lounge and will last one hour.

Speaking in favor of the sale will be Kevin Parker, an OCC associate

professor of English and president of the college’s Academic Senate.

Speaking against the sale will be Hall Davidson, a KOCE supporter.

TUESDAY

The Tijeras Golf Club in

Rancho Santa Margarita will host the Crossing’s fourth annual Golf

Classic benefiting the educational outreach program of the Maple

Learning Center in Costa Mesa. There will be $10,000 hole-in-one

prizes and chance to win a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle convertible or a

Dr. Richard Haskell will present a

discussion on Drug-Eluting Stents: Setting a New Standard. A new

medical device, the drug-eluting stent, and how it can help deal with

South Coast Plaza will host

the 19th annual Food, Wine and Micro-Brew Fest, featuring live

music with dancing and drawings for prizes. The event will take place

Orange Coast College’s

disabled students club, the Campus Collogues, will host a

wheelchair rugby exhibition to benefit disabled students. The match
