No criminal charges surprising in infant death
No one is going to prosecute the UC Irvine professor for the
actions that resulted in the death of his child (“Professor not
charged in son’s death,” Saturday)?
I am absolutely amazed that forgetting a 10-month-old in the back
of a hot car is not a crime. I wouldn’t leave my dog in the car. How
can this man not be charged with child endangerment at least? It’s
impossible. Is it because he is a UCI professor? If he were a
laborer, would he not be charged?
This is just impossible. I can’t believe it. I am ashamed of our
Orange County prosecutors.

Are we talking about the same Ronald Reagan?
This is in response to the fawning comment about former president
and governor Ronald Reagan from the two men in Laguna Beach. Surely,
we are thinking of two different Reagans.
Are they referring to the Reagan who made it politically correct
to not only show callous and indifference, but contempt, for the
hardships of those less fortunate? The Reagan, who as governor,
turned helpless, mentally retarded Californians out onto the cruel
streets?
The same Reagan who not only stubbornly refused to mention AIDS
until it became an epidemic, but then only in passing?
The same man who dismissed trees as irrelevant and had the most
destructive, anti-environmental stance until George W. Bush was
president?
The same man whose ill-advised, foolish economic policies came
within inches of bankrupting the nation?
The same president who lied to the world about Iran-Contra and
surrounded himself with quasi-felons, perjurers and batty
astrologists?
Do a little research, gentlemen, and chose your heroes more
carefully.

Blight is in the eye of the beholder
I would like those on the Costa Mesa City Council -- Mayor Gary
Monahan and members Chris Steel, Allan Mansoor, Libby Cowan and Mike
Scheafer -- to know that Van Ausdlen Trust owns property and a
business on Placentia Avenue. I object to any plan that would result
in labeling that property, in the 1600 block of the street, as
blighted and thus being recorded on the title, making it eligible for
eminent domain.
My property is not blighted, and my property title is not to be
clouded.
