Hoag Hospital having fund-raiser for pavilion

A benefit this Thursday for Hoag Hospital’s Women’s Pavilion will

include a chance to win a two-year lease on a 2004 BMW and a Cartier

watch.

The “Sterling Soiree,” being put on by the 552 Club, will take

place at 5:52 p.m. at Sterling BMW, 3000 W. Coast Highway in Newport

Beach.

All proceeds will go to the construction of the seven-story

Women’s Pavilion, which is scheduled to be finished in 2005.

The event will have a grand prize drawing of the lease on a 2004

530i as well as a live auction for the watch. It will be catered by

the Turnip Rose.

Attendance is by reservation only. The required donation is $65.

UCI hosting seminar on Latino health care

UC Irvine will present a daylong symposium, “Health Care

Disparities: The Latino Experience,” on Oct. 16 at the Tamkin Auditorum.

The fifth annual Tamkin Symposium will address the problems in

delivering quality, culturally sensitive health care to Latino

patients, as well as possible solutions to the dilemma.

Guest speakers including Cristina Beato, deputy assistant

secretary of health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human

Services; an Nathan Stinson Jr., deputy assistant secretary for

minority health for the U.S. Department of Health. Area healthcare

providers and experts will also be at the event.

Jerome Tamkin and his wife, Judith, are sponsoring they symposium,

which was organized by PRIME-LC, a UCI College of Medicine program

designed to prepare future doctors to work in underserved Latino

communities in California.

The symposium will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reception

and dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at the Sutton Place Hotel in

Newport Beach. The cost is $15 for the symposium and $50 for the

dinner.

OCC holding education fair for adults

Orange Coast College will host an “Adult Learners Education Fair”

Thursday evening for students, working adults and those interested in

returning to college.

More than 20 different colleges and universities will have

representatives and informational materials at the fair. They will be

available to discuss requirements, educational offerings, admissions,

scholarships, fees and expenses, campus environment, financial aid

and special programs.

Some of the schools expected to attend are Azusa Pacific

University; California State University at Dominguez Hills; Chapman

University; DeVry University; Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University;

Hope International University; Mount Saint Mary’s Weekend College;

National University; Orange Coast College; Saddleback College;

Southern Illinois University; Trinity Law and Graduate School; the

University of Phoenix; the University of Redlands; the Vanguard

University School of Professional Studies; and Webster University.

The fair will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the quad. Parking is

free.
