Private school to host celebration

The Hebrew Academy in Huntington Beach will have a Grand Sukkot

Party from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to celebrate the annual fall

harvest holiday.

Children of all ages will be able to enjoy a carnival organized by

the Hebrew Academy High School, featuring games and rides.

Performances by each grade level of the school will take place

from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., followed by a pizza dinner with salad,

desserts and other snacks. Live music is expected to make the event

festive and encourage everybody to get involved in dancing and

singing.

The celebration is open to Hebrew Academy students, families,

staff and the entire community. For more information call (714)

School community program honored

The Huntington Beach Youth Summit, a program offered to high

school students through the Police Department, was honored with a

Community-Oriented Policing Award on Tuesday.

The Summit is an annual three-day leadership program held at the

National Guard Base in San Luis Obispo that draws juniors and seniors

from each of the six Huntington Beach Union High School District

schools.

Students participate in a series of workshops and

leadership-training seminars with the ultimate goal of creating

action plans that help prevent the use of alcohol and drugs,

encouraging healthy lifestyles for students.

The Community-Oriented Policing Awards recognize residents and law

enforcement personnel who provide outstanding models of community

policing in their areas. This year there were 20 nominations,

involving more than 350 people from 15 of the county’s cities.

This is the ninth year that the Orange County Human Relations

Commission, as part of its “Orange County Together” initiative, has

recognized innovative community-oriented policing projects.
