Pedestrian struck, killed

on Adams Avenue

A pedestrian talking on her cell phone while crossing a busy

street died Tuesday after two cars hit her at 8:12 p.m.

The victim, an 18- or 19-year-old Surf City resident, died at

Huntington Beach Hospital late Tuesday night. She was struck first by

a car driven by an 18-year-old and then by a car driven by a

42-year-old when she was lying in the roadway on Adams Avenue near

Huntington Street, Huntington Beach Lt. Terry Lindsey said.

Police do not think the drivers are at fault, Lindsey said. Both

drivers stopped, and two passersby tried to help the victim until

police and paramedics arrived, Lindsey said.

The victim’s name wasn’t released by the Police Department.

Carjacking suspect arrested in La Mirada

Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of

carjacking a Huntington Beach resident at gunpoint across from

Huntington Beach police’s Downtown substation at 1 p.m.

Carlos Alexander, 20, was arrested in La Mirada on suspicion of

carjacking and auto theft after being chased by Buena Park police and

sheriffs. After running the 1995 Nissan Maxima he’d reportedly stolen

into a sheriff’s patrol car and injuring an officer, Alexander fled

on foot. He was apprehended after a resident hit him with a ladder,

Huntington Beach Lt. Janet Perez said.

Nathan Kuntz, the 26-year-old victim, called police at 1 p.m. from

101 Main St. He didn’t struggle and suffered no injuries, Perez said.

Police put out an all-points bulletin on the stolen car, and it was

spotted in Buena Park, where the chase began.

April Martinez, a 19-year-old Whittier resident, was in the car

with Alexander, and she didn’t run after the collision in La Mirada.

She was taken into custody and later released after police determined

that she had had nothing to do with the carjacking.

Man arrested in Matthew Large murder case

Huntington Beach detectives traveled to Oklahoma on Saturday to

take a murder suspect profiled on “America’s Most Wanted” into

custody.

Tommy McGuire, 60, who is suspected in the murder of 22-year-old

Matthew Large two years ago, was arrested in Choctaw County, Okla.,

on Oct. 9. He was reportedly living in Eureka, Calif. but fled to

Oklahoma after Large’s body was found buried in the sand in Humboldt

Bay in February.

McGuire was booked Sunday at the Huntington Beach Police

Department Jail.

Large was last seen Dec. 6, 2001, and was reported missing after

he didn’t show up for an Ultimate Fighting competition in Huntington

Beach on Dec. 9, 2001, Huntington Beach Lt. Janet Perez said. Large’s

truck was found submerged in Humboldt Bay on Dec. 28, 2002.

McGuire was formally charged Feb. 14.
