Laguna Club for Kids Gala is on Sunday

Laguna Club for Kids, also known as TLC, will host its second

annual Open House Gala and Opportunity Drawing from 2 p.m. to 5:30

p.m. Sunday.

The day will be filled with activities for the entire family with

a raffle opportunity to win a new 2003 Mini Cooper.

Laguna Club for Kids has been serving Laguna for 31 years.

Scholarship funds, staff development and program improvements will be

benefited for this fundraising event.

Tickets to win the car are $100 each. Laguna Club for Kids is

located at 1470 Temple Terrace at Bluebird Park. To find out

El Morro takes part in Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon week, which is held Monday through Oct. 24, is a

national program designed to raise awareness about drug prevention

for youths. El Morro Elementary School has activities planned,

including the teaching of nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyle

choices.

“Wear Red Flag Assembly” will kick off the week on Monday.

Students and staff will wear red to kick off the assembly featuring

volleyball gold medalist and El Morro parent Dusty Dvorack along with

El Morro Girl Scouts and Brownies. Dvorak will challenge principal

Culverhouse to a volleyball rally.

“Put A Cap on Drugs” is Tuesday. Students and staff are challenged

to put a cap on drugs by wearing hats decorated in the red ribbon

theme. Stickers will be awarded to all involved.

On Wednesday the theme is “Sock It to Drugs.” Students and staff

are encouraged to sock it to drugs by wearing their favorite and

unusual socks to school.

“Give Drugs the Boot” is Thursday. Students are invited to

participate in a lunchtime soccer shoot out against principal

Culverhouse at PTA president Melanie Lewis.

The week ends with “Say Boo to Drugs” on Oct. 24 with their annual

Boo Blast Carnival.

El Morro Elementary School’s annual Halloween Carnival Boo Blast

is from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. All are invited to get dressed up

and join in on the activities.

There will be a haunted pirate ship, gams, food and plenty of fun

things for everyone to partake. It’s an annual fund-raiser that

brings thousands to join in the activities.

The community event is not just for El Morro students and their

family. El Morro School is located off Coast highway and El Moro
