Eatery celebrating 20 years with charity

Newport Rib Company in Costa Mesa and Naples Rib Company in Long

Beach are hosting 20 Days of Charity, a fund-raising event to thank

their communities for 20 years of loyal support.

The Ursini family, which owns both restaurants, is recognizing 20

years of serving their communities with a program to benefit 20

charitable organizations in Newport-Mesa and 20 in Long Beach or Seal

Beach.

Until Oct. 31, the restaurants will donate 20% of each dinner

receipt to one of 20 charities selected by each dining party. At the

end of each meal, patrons will be presented a 20 Days of Charity

Card, which lists each charity and how it supports its community.

Diners will be asked to select which group they would like to

support, and each charity will receive the accumulated total at the

end of the event.

The event began Oct. 12. Closing ceremonies with check

presentations will be held at the Newport Rib Company at 6 p.m. Nov.

4.

The 20 charities patrons can chose from in Newport-Mesa are:

Costa Mesa United, Estancia High School Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics,

the Junior League of Orange County, Corona del Mar High School Boys’

& Girls’ Athletics, Costa Mesa Kiwanis, Our Lady Queen of Angels, the

Surfrider Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area, the

PADRE Foundation, the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation, the

Environmental Nature Center, Resurrection Lutheran Preschool, Share

Our Selves, Lincoln Elementary School, the Orange Coast College

Foundation, Costa Mesa High School Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics, Save our

Youth, Newport Harbor High School Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics, Someone

Cares Soup Kitchen, St. Joachim School and the California School

Education Foundation.

City offering Winter Teen Camp

The City of Costa Mesa Recreation Division will offer a Winter

Teen Camp in December.

The camp, which is open to boys and girls entering the seventh,

eighth and ninth grades, will run from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2. It will be

held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown

Recreation Center in Costa Mesa.

Campers will take daily excursions to Magic Mountain, Knott’s

Berry Farm and Aquarium of the Pacific, as well as local malls and

movies.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 24 at the Downtown

Recreation Center at 1860 Anaheim Ave. Only 27 spaces are available.

Class in Jewish ethics being offered

The Jewish Learning Institute will hold a course titled “Talmudic

Ethics: Timeless Wisdom for Timely Dilemmas” at the Hyatt Newporter,

1107 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach. The class will from 7:15 to 8:45

p.m. Thursdays for eight week. It costs $99. For more information,

Republican women will hear talk on Sacramento

Karen Holgate, policy director for the Capitol Resource Institute,

will speak on “The Current Scene in Sacramento” at a luncheon meeting

of the Newport Harbor Republican Women at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, 1601 Bayside Drive, Corona del Mar. The
