Viking runners third at Orange County Championships
Marina High’s boys’ cross country team earned a third-place overall
finish at last Saturday’s Orange County Championships held at Irvine
Regional Park.
The Vikings recorded a team time of 80:17 and scored 117 points
and finished behind reigning champion Dana Hills and Sunset League
rival, Fountain Valley.
Van Nguyen’s run of 15:40 earned him a ninth-place finish -- tops
among Marina competitors.
In girls’ volleyball, Huntington Beach evened its Sunset record at
2-2 with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-8 win over Marina.
Natalie Meyers had 10 kills for the Oilers
In boys’ water polo, Huntington Beach was a 12-6 winner over Sunset rival at Golden West College.
Marina squandered a 7-4 lead over Esperanza but the Aztecs scored
the game’s final four goals to pull out an 8-7 league win at Golden
West College.
In girls’ tennis, Lauren Pascoe swept at No. 3 singles and
Huntington picked up its fourth league win in five outings with an
11-7 victory over Edison.
In girls’ golf, Marina concluded the first half of Sunset League
play with a 5-0 record by defeating host Esperanza, 217-239, at Yorba Linda Country Club.
Jane Chin shot a 2-under-par to lead the Vikings.
