City agency offering help to home buyers

The Costa Mesa Redevelopment Agency has money available for the

agency’s Home Buyer Assistance Program, which offers down payment

assistance of up to $40,000 in the form of a deferred second mortgage

to select home buyers.

The buyer must provide at least a 5% down payment, have sufficient

income to make payments and have qualifying credit.

Costa Mesa couple get congressional award

Dave and Debbe Magnusen of Costa Mesa received the 2003

Congressional Angels in Adoption award during a ceremony conducted by

the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute in Virginia.

The award recognizes those who have made a difference in the lives

of children and families through adoption.

Beauty classes offered for cancer patents

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring Look Good ... Feel

Better classes, which are held from 10 a.m. to noon every Monday at

Hoag Hospital.

The class teaches cancer patients tips on makeup, wigs and turbans

to help hide the drastic effects of radiation and chemotherapy

treatment. Classes are free, but registration is required.

OCTA approves changes at Bristol exit

The Orange County Transportation Authority board on Oct. 16

approved two contract changes for additional design on the San Diego

and Costa Mesa freeways interchange project.

The board will pay CH2M Hill $110,616 for design services to

accelerate the Bristol Street off-ramp project and to make changes

that will improve traffic flow and safety.

The board also allocated $2.1 million for additional construction

and other services on the Bristol Street off-ramp project and the

carpool connector between the northbound San Diego Freeway and the

southbound Costa Mesa Freeway.

Pumpkins and Pancake extravaganza Sunday

The 12th annual Pumpkins and Pancakes Children’s Halloween

Extravaganza will take place Sunday at South Coast Plaza.

The event will include an animal show hosted by Wild Wonders Inc.,

a visit from the Costa Mesa Fire Department, a gourmet pancake

breakfast, cappuccino bar, face painting, balloon artists,

trick-or-treating, prizes and crafts.

Children may wear costumes to the extravaganza.

Pumpkins and Pancakes is sponsored by Court Appointed Special

Advocates of Orange County. Net proceeds will benefit abused,

abandoned and neglected children being served by the organization’s

programs.

Breakfast runs from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Crate & Barrel/Macy’s Home

Store Wing of South Coast Plaza at 3333 Bear St. in Costa Mesa.

Tickets cost $25 at the door and admission is free for children

younger than 2 years old.
