The warm weather and low-moisture do nothing to quell memories of a

similar day 10 years ago when a seemingly distant plume of smoke

became a defining moment in most Lagunan’s lives.

All are grateful nobody died on Oct. 27, 1993, but the devastation

was still hard felt, 366 homes were lost along with family pets and

other property.

But from all the pain come stories about the heroes of the day --

the people who rescued animals and helped others while their own

homes burned.

Hardly a soul came away from the fire unscathed and 10 years

later, the memories remain strong.
