Jacob Gildart scored five touchdowns to lead the Newport-Mesa Jr.

Midget (11-13-year-olds) Seahawks to a 41-22 victory over the

visiting Rowland Heights Raiders last Saturday.

Gildart scored on a 45-yard pass from quarterback Matt Barkley and

added touchdown runs of 48 and 45 yards to spur the Seahawks (6-0).

Erik Rask began the scoring in the second quarter with a 2-yard

burst set up by a Barkley completion to Max Stiegler.

The Raiders tied it at 6 before the Seahawks’ offensive line of

Frankie Russo, Justin Elbourn, Kevin Rask, Joshua Dill and Evan

Livadas led the next possession, allowing Barkley to hit Garza and

J.P. Gormly on completions before Gildart scored and ran in the

two-point conversion for a 14-6 lead.

Austin Raiger intercepted the next Raider possession to close out

the half.

Seahawks Brett Hanrahan, Taylor McSunas, James Burger, Patrick

Marin-Finn and Travis Prickett provided protection for Barkley to hit

Gildart for the aforementioned 45-yard TD strike and a 20-6 lead.

Gildart then ran it in from 48 yards to put the Seahawks up, 28-6.

The Raiders answered on the next drive and a Seahawk turnover led to

another score and a 28-22 lead.

But Gildart began the fourth quarter with a 45-yard run and the

defense held tight.

Runs by Raiger, Erik Rask and Garza set up Barkley’s completion to

Gormly to put the ball on the Raider 15-yard line, setting up Gildart

for his fifth touchdown.

Kevin Morgenstern, Alex Vollaire, Morgan Brombal and Richard

Townsend led the Seahawk defense in a scoreless first quarter.

In Clinic (8-10-year-olds) action:

* Seahawks 46, Huntington Beach Dolphins 6:

Stephen Vayda scored two touchdowns and Chase Favreau returned the

opening kickoff 60 yards for a score for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks scored seven touchdowns, which also included a

60-yard reverse by Joe Scrivner, a 50-yard run by John Barton, a

3-yard burst from Mario Rosales and a 5-yard TD from Kellon Truxton.

Aaron White, Zack Beaudine, Scrivner, Kaden Stark, Louis Sheldon,

A.J. Swies, Jack Kanen, Jake Hall, Angelo Angelides, Jeff Condino,

Justin Gildart, Matt Carlyle, Spencer Schmider, Hunter Molnar, Ian

Klug, Michael Hyden and Truxton all led the defense.

Scrivner, in his first year of full-contact football, was named

Player of the Week. He made several tackles.

In Jr. Clinic (7-8-year-olds action):

* Seahawks 29, Fountain Valley Jaguars 0:

On the first play of the game, running back Jeff Carlyle took a

handoff from quarterback Aaron Crosby and ran for a 60-yard touchdown

behind the blocking of Colby Koste, Taro Doone, Daniel Albert, James

Christian, Josh Rivera and Rocky Feinberg.

Carlyle ran for two more touchdowns and the final Seahawk score

came on a 10-yard run by J.C. Genova. Feinberg converted the extra

point.

Quarterback Levi Stillman contributed to the offense as did Korey

Cablay, who connected on a pass to Josh Rivera in the end zone.

The Seahawk defense held the Jaguars to negative yards and sacked

the quarterback for a safety.

Sacks and several tackles were made by Levi Swoger, James Barrett,

Kyle Benter, Marquise Broussard, Garrett Farthing, Stephen Keenan,

Colbe Coste, Nic Landstrom, Cameron Davis and Chris Johnstone.

Johnstone had help chasing the quarterback from Davis, Christian,

Albert and Feinberg.

Doone, at center, led the offense in front of all three

quarterbacks and the backfield ran a variety of formations with

Genova, Crosby, Stillman and Cablay leading the attack for the

Seahawks (4-3).

In Pee Wee (11-12-year-olds) action:

* Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs Saints 27, Seahawks 8:

The Seahawks led, 8-6, at halftime, but the Saints scored the

final 21 points of the game.

The Seahawks took an 8-0 lead midway through the second quarter

when Michael Helfrich scored a touchdown on a 20-yard run. The play

was set up when quarterback Mitchell Sands pitched to J.D. Abbott,

who scampered 35 yards with blocking from fullback Nick Svendsen and

the line of Sean Breslin, John Christian, Steven Clapp, Andrew Hicks,

Bunk Hooper, Michael Lancaster, Matt Morris and William Ham.

Despite the loss, the Seahawks received improved performances from

first-year players Scott Frazier, Tyler Haly, Breslin and Kyle

Cablay.

Linebackers Kyle Chene and Helfrich led in tackles while Michael

Lancaster, Andrew Hickers and Kyle Gladding collected sacks for the

third consecutive week.

Seahawk punter Christian was named Player of the Week.

For the past four weeks, Christian has not had one bad snap from

center and his punts have pinned the opposition in

less-than-desirable field position.
