City officials growing concerned over the cove

Crystal Cove State Park is of increasing concern to the city of

Newport Beach, even though most of the park is outside the city

borders. Council members on Tuesday will hear a presentation on

different projects at the park, including a controversial plan to

remove mobile home park residents when their lease expires at the end

of next year. In the future, council members might consider pass a

resolution to take a formal position on Crystal Cove preservation.

* Steven Rosansky has been named the new City Councilman

representing West Newport Beach and Newport Heights. Rosansky, a

Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commissioner, ran in the last election

and was defeated by Gary Proctor. He will serve out the end of

Proctor’s term to November 2004 then he said he plans to run for

re-election.

* A new fire and rescue facility at John Wayne Airport will

replace the aging structure now on the site. The County Board of

Supervisors awarded a $5-million contract to build the facility.

* JUNE CASAGRANDE covers Newport Beach and John Wayne Airport. She
